Avalee Fitzgerald, 98, of Madison, Wisconsin, formerly of Nevada, passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Agrace Hospice in Madison.

Avalee was born July 2, 1915, in St. Anthony to Tony and Mamie Meimann. She graduated from St. Anthony High School and was united in marriage to John Fitzgerald on February 9, 1939, in St. Anthony. Avalee was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada and St. Ann’s Study Club.

Avalee raised her family in Milford Township and spent the last few years in Madison with Mary Ann and Tony. While living there she became a part of the local neighborhood.

Avalee enjoyed quilting, reading, square dancing and playing bridge. She was a very creative and loving mother and grandmother; a friend to everyone she met.

Avalee is survived by her son, Michael (Peggy) Fitzgerald of New Lenox, IL; her daughters, Gerri (Earl) Dobbe of Eldridge, IA, Marjorie (Joseph) Fitzgerald Rinehart of Lacey, WA, Kathy (Allan) Huse of Sergeant Bluff, IA and Mary Ann Fitzgerald (Tony Ives) of Madison, WI; her grandchildren, Matt (Jill) Dobbe, Susan (Ryan) Blaskovich, Ryan (Angie) Huse, Nathan (Alicia) Huse, Laura (Joshua) Bullis, Jonnie Fitzgerald (Frank Patano) and Sean Fitzgerald; nine great-grandchildren; and her brother, Merle (Lucille) Meimann of Cedar Falls, IA. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1992; her parents; a grandson, Christopher Dobbe; her brothers, Lester, Francis and Gerald; and her sister Lorraine Welp.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 14, 2013, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating concelebrating with Father Tim Fitzgerald. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Nevada. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in loving memory of Avalee.
