Obituary From Adams Soderstrum Funeral Home, Story County, Iowa.
Sandi Jeanne Baum was born June 6, 1953 to Gene and Myreta (Marshall) Collins in Marshalltown, Iowa. Sandi married David Baum on May 31, 1974 and received an AA degree in nursing in 1975. She unconditionally showered her family and friends with a degree of compassion, nurture, support, and love in a way that could only be shown by a servant and follower of Christ. She relished any time with family and could, in the same breath, counsel on life's greatest challenges and share a much needed laugh (including jokes for which she was the willing center). Sandi had a knack for the perfect timing of an encouraging word, a nudge of motivation, a timely silence, and a necessary hug. Some of her most treasured moments involved a warm day, a bit of sweat on the brow, and chores to complete in the yard followed by an evening on the deck to relax and "chirp". Her encyclopedic recollection of children's songs (coupled with a beautiful alto voice) and willingness to "play" never ceased to amaze her grandkids and children. She will forever be remembered for the love, smiles, enduring positive attitude, and graceful grit that she displayed in her life, including her fearless and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Sandi passed away August 27, 2013 at her home in Ames at 60 years of age.
Sandi is survived by her husband, David Baum of Ames; her children, Christian (Debbie) Baum and their children, Calvin, Zachary and Isabel of Rochester, Minnesota, Heather (Chris) Plucar and their children, Jack, Olivia and Parker of Huxley, and Ryan (Amina) Baum and their son, Austin of Eagan, Minnesota; her mother, Myreta Collins of Union; her brother, Kim (Patricia) Collins of Union; and her sister, Teri Knuth of Ames.
She was predeceased by her dad, Gene Collins; her brother, Brian Collins; and her grandparents, Edward Collins and Aleta Ibach and Clyde and Nellie Marshall.
