William Arthur Steel, Jr. was born May 2, 1927 to William Arthur, Sr. and Nina (McDowell) Steel in Ames, Iowa. William served in the United States Army during WWII, serving from 1946-1952. William received the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. After the service, William married Florence Elma Parks. He worked as a farmer and at the National Animal Disease Lab in Ames. William was a member of Grace Bible Church in Gilbert, American Legion Post #37 and several coffee clubs. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. William loved his work and time visiting with friends.
William passed away August 23, 2013 at Mary Greeley Medical Center at 86 years of age.
William is survived by his wife, Florence, of Ames; four sons, Jim (Susan) Steel, Ron Steel, David Steel and Gary (Deb) Steel; one daughter, Marianne (John) Loseke. seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Harriett Wearth; and his brother, Frank (Joyce) Steel.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Memorials may be made to Israel Family Hospice House.
