LaVonne W. Johnson
Jan. 14, 1916 to Jan. 6, 2004

LaVonne W. Johnson, 87, of Iowa City, formerly of Nevada, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, at her daughter Jean Bear-Faaborg and son-in-law Lynn Faaborg's home in Iowa City.

LaVonne was born Jan. 14, 1916, to Robert H. and Luella (Lang) Johns in Audubon. She graduated from Eldora in 1933. She married Eugene Nicholson in 1937, and they had three children. They divorced in 1946. She then married Lowell Johnson on June 15, 1949, in Nevada. She was a homemaker. Her greatest joys were her family, music and Bridge. LaVonne moved to Iowa City from Nevada in October of 2000. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Nevada, St. Mark's Methodist Church, Iowa City, and Iowa City Music Club.

Survivors include her son, Greg Nicholson and his wife of Arvada, Colo.; two daughters, Jean (and Lynn) Bear-Faaborg, and Jane Garner (and fiance, Fran Hradek) both of Iowa City; one sister Charlane Tanner of Washington, Iowa; two brother, Marvin Johns of Des Moines and Doug Johns of Colo; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lowell, on July 30, 1978; two brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 9, at Central Presbyterian Church in Nevada with Pastor Harlan Gillespie of St. Mark's Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Parish Nurse Program at St. Mark's Methodist Chruch, 2675 E. Washington St., Iowa City, Iowa 52245 or Iowa City Hospice, 1025 Wade St., Iowa City, Iowa 52245. Arrangements were entrusted to Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada.
