Curtis R. Forbes
Curtis R. Forbes, 43, 609 Ridgewood Ave., died Monday of cander at his home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames with Rev. Les Gyllstrom officiating. Burial was at 2:15 in the Nevada Cemetery.
Forbes was born to Iva and Earl Forbes in Ames and raised in Nevada. In 1972 he received a bachelor's degree in social work from the University of Iowa. He was a United States Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War. On Oct. 1, 1983, he married Barbara Masmar.
From February 1973 to June 1977, he was employed by the Bureau of Community Correctional Services as a parole/probation officer. From June 1977 unti the time of his illness in April 1987 he served as the supervisor of the Ames Probation/Parole Office witht he Second Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. In this capacity, he managed pre-trial services, pre-sentence investigations, probation and parole services for Story and Boone Counties and was instrumental in developing and coordinating a variety of correctional programming, alternatives, including volunteer/internship programs, community service placement service, self-esteem/life coping skills groups and other specialized treatment services for targeted offender groups.
Survivors include his wife Barbara; two stepsons, Andrew Masmar and Timothy Masmar; one daughter, Cassie Forbes; one sister, Mary Lou Brown; and his mother, Iva Forbes of Riverside, CA.
He was peceded in death by his father, Earl.
