Mrs. Hans Hansen Dead; Funeral on Tuesday Afternoon

Mrs. Hans Hansen, 78, long-time resident of the community died at her home at the west end of K avenue, at 1046 First street at 10 a.m. Sunday, after a long illness.

Mrs. Hansen, who had lived alone in her home following the death of her husband who passed away in 1936, had been ill and confined to her bed fore seven months, during which time she had been under almost constant care of a nurse.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 at the Morfoot Funeral home, with her pastor Dr. J. O. Simon in charge. Interment will be in the Nevada cemetery by the side of her husband who passed away about 10 years ago.

Mrs. Hansen, who was a native of Denmark, Europe, had lived in Nevada since 1907, when with her husband they retired from a farm and located in the home in which they spent the last years of their lives.

They are survived in their immediate family by one daughter, Mrs. J. W. Anderson of 1016 Eighth street, a son Amiel Hansen of Grant township having passed away a few years ago.

Mrs. Hansen was a woman of very fine character, a kind and considerate neighbor and a woman closely devoted to her home and family.

She will be well remembered by a wide circle of friends.

Rites Held Here Thursday for Mrs. Hans Hansen

Funeral for Mrs. Hans Hansen, 78, of 1046 First street, who passed away Saturday afternoon after a lingering illness, were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the Morfoot Funeral home with Dr. J. O. Simon of Memorial Lutheran church in charge.

The service was opened by the reading of the hymn "Rock of Ages" by the minister and at the slose the same hymn was played by Harry Christiansen at the piano. The service was a simple, yet impressive one and attended by a large group of relaitves, friends, and old neighbors.

Thos who served as casket bearers were Myron Boten, Ray Chitty, Mont Hansen, Fred Rasmussen and L. B. Dooley.

Interment was in the Nevada cemetery by the side of the husband who passed away about five years ago.

Among the relatives and friends from a distance who were present at the service were a brother, Henry Peterson of Terrill; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kassel and Edith Kahley of Mason City; Mrs. Dean Rutter, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Kahley and Miss Ethel Gahley of Spencer; Mrs. Pete Peterson and daughter of Milford; Mrs. Anna Paulson of Ames and Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson and Misses Jane and Carrie Larson of Story City.

The following sketch of the life of the deceased was read by Dr. Simon during the service:

Mrs. Helene Hansen was born in Keil, Denmark, in the year of 1863 and passed away at her home, 1046 1st street in Nevada, Sunday morning, Sept. 6, 1942, at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 16 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith when a girl and came to the U. S. A. at the age of 16 years.

In the fall of 1879 she was united in marriage to Hans Hansen who preceded her in death in 1937. They had made their home in Story county during their entire marriage life.

To this union two children were born. The son, Emiel, deceased, passed away the 2nd day of August 1938. Surviving is her one daughter, Mrs. Emma Anderson; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Emiel Hansen, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was the oldest of a family of nine children, five sisters and three brothers, all having passed away but two brothers, Pete Peterson of Milford, and Henry Peterson of Terrill, both in Iowa.
