Obituary of John A. Johnson
John A. Johnson was born Aug. 8 1870 at Gilbert Station, Ia. Here he lived 34 years and was married to Miss Mary Johnson Nov 22, 1895. In 1912 he moved to Minnesota where he lived 3 years in Bennington township. Last year he moved into Grand Meadow township having bought a farm there. He died Th(????) (I assume Thursday) forenoon Feb 15, being instantly killed by a falling tree. He leaves to mourn
his death, a wife and three children, Elmer, Alice and Clara, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Johnson of Story City, Ia., and four brothers and two sisters who were all present at the funeral. The funeral occurred on Friday with devotioinal services at the house at 11 o'clock and services at Bear Creek church at 1 o'clock. Interment was made in the Bear Creek cemetery. Rev. Jahren officiating. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church. Mr. Johnson had just recently moved in to this neighborhood but had already won a host of friends. His sudden departure is therefore deplored by many. A deep felt sympathy goes out to the family which so suddenly has lost a husband and father. May the good and loving Father, whose guiding hand we percieve so often in our lives, heal the aching heart wounds of the lonely widow and fatherless children.
Grand Meadow Record. February 1916.
