Thongpane “Ben” Rattanavongsa, 57, of Nevada, died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Ben was born September 1, 1955 in Savannakhet, Laos, the son of Meun and Luong Rattanavongsa. After finishing school in Laos, Ben was a teacher. He came to the United States in July of 1980 and has worked as a machinist at EFCO Corporation. Ben enjoyed fishing, hunting, and a good Bud-Lite. He loved his family and grandchildren.

Ben is survived by his wife: Somphanh “Sam” Luck of Nevada, Iowa; 2 sons: Keeto Rattanavongsa of Laos, Sangka (Jessica) Luck of Des Moines, Iowa; 3 daughters: Phon (Mike) McCubbin of Denver, Colorado, Sue Luck of Dallas, Texas, Nee Nee (Malik) Toms of Phoenix, Arizona; 7 grandchildren; and a brother: Bountay Rattanavongsa of California.

Ben was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation with the family present will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 Am until Noon on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, Iowa. Cremation will follow.

Inurnment will take place at 4:30 PM Saturday at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
