From Nevada Representative August 30, 1882

Capt. S. B. McCall

Many of the early citizens of this county will remember Capt. S. B. McCall, an old citizen of Boone county and for many years its County Judge. He represented his district in the Legislature as a Democrat, before the Capitol was moved from Iowa City, went into the army as a Douglas Democrat, came out a Republican, and was again elected to the Legislature, being the first Republican elected to that position from Boone county. He remained in Boone till about 1871, a near as we remember, and then went to Utah Territory, after which we lost all track of him.

About two weeks aso we saw a communictation in the Boone Republican written by M. T. Harlan, formerly County Superintenent of Boone county, but at present a resident of Harley City, Idaho Territory, in which the following mention is once more made of our old friend S. B. McCall:

"But what induced me to pen thses lines was the statement made to me this morning relative to my dear old friend Capt. S. B. McCall. A man told that he was well acquainted with Capt. McCall in Jacob City, Utah Territory, and that two years ago captain left that place for Arizona and there died in a hospital. The captain and I corresponded until two years ago. I have lost his since, or the man's story is true."

Thus we are called upon to record the death of one of the brightest and most genial companions of the early settlers of Iowa.
