Jerry Ray Taylor, 82, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2013. He was born in Nevada, Iowa on September 9, 1930, the son of Ray and Ruth Patten Taylor. He was raised in Iowa and went to the Iowa School for the Deaf. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree from Gallaudet College in Washington DC.

It was while he was attending Gallaudet College that he met his “Dearest” Nancy. Jerry and Nancy were married on August 23, 1958 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Jerry and Nancy moved to Ogden in 1958 to pursue his teaching career, and in 1972 they moved to South Ogden where they resided at the time of his death.

He was a faithful member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Jerry was a teacher at the Utah School for the Deaf for 29 years, retiring in 1987. He was very proud of his work in the development of the Athletic Department at the school where he served as Basketball, Track and Cross-Country Coach, as well as the Athletic Director. He dedicated many years of service to the deaf community, including the Utah Association for the Deaf, the National Association of the Deaf, and the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf.

He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Jazz and Cubs. Jerry and Nancy enjoyed traveling, camping and gardening. Jerry was an animal lover and he leaves behind his beloved Scooter and Mesa.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; sons, John and James Taylor; daughter, Ruth Taylor; 2 grandsons, Joshua (Nicole) Taylor and Alyxander Taylor; 1 great-grandson, Mason Taylor; and sister, Dixie Brekke.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Taylor and his parents.

Funeral services was held on Monday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 3329 Harrison Blvd., Ogden.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Harry Senekjian and the ICU nurses and staff at McKay Dee Hospital.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to either St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ogden or the National Kidney Foundation.
