Leo Wayne Kinyon
August 9, 1925 - July 2, 2013

Leo Wayne Kinyon, 87 of Nevada died on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 6 in the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1110 11th Street in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial, with military rites, will follow in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.

Leo was born on August 9, 1925 in Adaza, IA to Wayne Marshall and Geneva (Wood) Kinyon. He was a 1943 graduate of Shipley High School. Leo served in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. On April 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Nora E. Ackerman at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. Leo was a farmer and carpenter following the war and then was employed by Standard Oil delivering to the Cambridge area in the early 50's. Leo worked in sales, then as manager and also served as a dealer for the original Jeep dealership in Ames. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Cambridge American Legion Post.

Leo is survived by his wife Nora Kinyon of Nevada; three sons Richard (Joann) Kinyon of Ames, Ronnie (Susan) Kinyon of Ellsworth, and Michael (Connie) Kinyon; six grandchildren Melissa Hamilton, Jessica Kinyon, Carolyn Steckelberg, Barbara Kinyon, Wayne Kinyon, and Gunnery Sgt. Kent Kinyon; seven great-grandchildren; a brother Larry (Lynne) Kinyon of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and a sister-in-law Sandra Kinyon of Boone.

Leo was preceded in death by parents, an infant sister Cheryl Ann in 1947, two brothers Ralph and Varney Kinyon; and a grandson-in-law Mark Steckelberg.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 5 from 5-7:00 p.m. again at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church where a Vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Leo.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Leo and his family.
