Bruce B. Hanway
July 10, 1957 - March 12, 2013

Bruce Baldwin Hanway, 55, of Ames, passed away March 12, 2013, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16th at St. John’s By The Campus Episcopal Church in Ames. The family will receive friends 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Bruce Hanway was born July 10, 1957, to John and Barbara (Baldwin) Hanway in Ames, Iowa. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland. Bruce and Cheryl Wheeler were married June 1, 1980, at St. Johns By The Campus Episcopal Church.

Bruce lived and worked throughout the United States and Europe, including Seattle, Phoenix, Vermont, Sicily, Spain, Sardinia, before returning to Ames. He was employed by CyRide. Bruce was a life-long student of history as well as word and number puzzles. He was quick to put a smile on everyone’s face with his quick wit or a joke. He loved being a father to Pierce and spending time with his family.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Cheryl Hanway of Ames; his son, Pierce Hanway of Ames; his mother, Barbara Hanway; his sister, Laurel (Bruce) Kimball of Phoenix, Arizona; five brothers, John Hanway, Jr. of Seattle, Washington, Rod Hanway of Redlands, California, Kevin (Meredith) Hanway of Portland, Oregon, Craig (Kathy) Hanway of Seattle, and Chris Hanway of Aurora, Colorado; his aunt Portia (Chuck) Kendall of Independence, Missouri; his mother-in-law Arlene Wheeler and sister-in-law Robyn Wheeler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Hanway.
