STORY CITY--Cernal Sampson, 72, Story City, died unexpectedly at his home in Story City about 4:45 a.m. today.

Mr. Sampson had been a farmer south of Radcliffe until his retirement and move to Story City about 13 years ago.

He was born on a farm near Radcliffe, the son of Chris and Martha Sampson.

Mr. Sampson is survived by his wife, Carrie; four daughters, Mrs. Carl Wegner, Radcliffe; Mrs. Willard Hanson, Ellsworth; Mrs. Arnold Anderson, Roland, and Mrs. Richard Biddle, Newark, Del.; four sons, Carroll of Radcliffe, Leonard of Roland, Donald of Cambridge and Earnest Sampson of Schenectady, N.Y.; 23 grandchildren; four brothers, Clarence Sampson of McCallsburg, Silas of Belmond, and Charles and LeRoy Sampson, both of Radcliffe; two sisters, Mrs. LeRoy Amundsen, Kensett, and Mrs. Ludvig Wegner of Radcliffe.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Inger, and a brother, Otis.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 2 p.m. Saturday from the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City, with the Rev. Harold T. Masted and the Rev. Perry Heller, Zion Lutheran Church, McCallsburg, officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery south of McCallsburg.

The body will lie in state at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home, Story City, from Friday morning until Saturday noon.
