Lewis Matson
April 3, 1908-Jan. 11, 1995

Lewis Marion Matson, 86, of Story City, died Wednesday of cancer at his home. Funeral services will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, with the Rev. Stephen Anenson officiating. Burial will be in Story City Cemetery.

Lewis Marion Matson was born in Buckeye to Andrew C. and Mamie (Harris) Matson. He married Agnes Stensland of Jewell in the Bethesda Lutheran church parsonage on Jan. 28, 1933.

He resided in the Randall and Story County communities.

He had farmed for 11 years before becoming a carpenter and contractor in Story County. There he built 74 homes under the name Matson Builders.

His hobbies included designing and building clocks, carving painting and crafting wood products.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes of Story City; one son, Duane Matson of Randall; three daughters, Lola Jean Templeton of Apple Valley, Minn., Marilyn Whipple of Story City, and Sharon Ellis of Elk River, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and one half-brother, Albert Matson of Bryon, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one half-sister.

Visitation will be today from 3 p.m. at the Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home at Story City, with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions my be made in his name to Hospice program, or to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City.
