Roy E. Gaard
Roy E. Gaard, 80, of Story City, died of Cancer Monday, Oct. 27, 1997 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, of which he was a member, with Revs. Tom Hunt and Stephen Amenson officiating. Burial will be in the Story City Cemetery.
Roy E. Gaard was born Aug. 7, 1917 in Story City to Bernhard and Randie S. (Monson) Gaard. He was a lifetime resident of Story City and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On April 27, 1947, Roy married Norma Brattebo. He was co-owner and co-operator of Ose Hardware in Story City for 34 years, retiring in 1981.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan Gaard of Unbandale and Jane Gaard of Orlando, Florida; two sisters, Helen Bie of Ames and Gladys Wheelock of Ames; two grandchildren, Sara Winchell and Thomas Gaard Plevik; and his close friend, Elvera Krause of Story City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Tom, and one brother, Arnold.
Visitation will be held Wednesday after 3 p.m. with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m. at Soderstrum-Larson Funeral Home in Story City.
