Ruth Kreutner

Ruth Lillian Elizabeth Kreutner, 89, of Story City, died of a pulmonary embolism Friday, Marth 30, 2001, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held Monday, April 2 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City with Rev. Thomas Reuss officiating. Burial was in the Story City Cemetery.

Ruth Kreutner was born June 6, 1911 in Boone County to Andrew and Emma (Ahrens) Happel. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Boone. She married Floyd Kreutner on Feb. 7, 1932. They farmed west of Story City until moving to Story City in 1965. Ruth was a baker at Happy Chef in Story City and catered weddings before retiring in 1986. She was a member of St. Petri Luthern Church and volunteered at Bethany Manor and her church. She was a 50-year member of Aid Association for Lutherans.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Staples of Jewell and Sherry Louis of Iowa City; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Dec. 18, 1969; two sisters, Katherine Stoll and Rosa Murken; and three brothers, Irvin, Reuben (Bud) and Lawrence Happel.
