THOMAS R. MASON

Thomas Mason was born December 19, 1848, in Kvindheret, Norway. Coming with his parents to America at the age of 11 years, he settled in Clinton county, Iowa. He later moved to Benton county where he was united in marriage to Julia Olson January 27, 1872. They lived in Benton county until the spring of 1904, then moved to Story City, where they lived until the year 1923, the moving to their daughter, Mrs. C. H. Risdal. Since the death of his wife, he has lived with the children.

After four months illness, he died at the home of daughter, Mrs. R. C. Sutton in Des Moines, July 10, 1926.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Mason, one, namely Morris, died at the age of six years. Those who survive him are William Mason, Madison, Minn., Mrs. Anna Ellingson of Atkins, Iowa, Mrs. Bertha Dyrland, of Marshalltown, Iowa, Mrs. Linda Risdal and Mrs. Maria Risdal of Roland, Mrs. Minnie Sutton of Des Moines, and Milton Olson of Fort Dodge, whom he raised as his own child since he was three years old. He is also survived by 50 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren; he also has three sisters and one brother, namely, Mrs. Martha Grinde, Bagley, Minn., Mrs. Alice Omvig, Story City, Mrs. Bertha Ersland, Eagle Grove, and George Mason, Northfield, Minn.
