Charles Alfred, 86, Dies Last Evening

Charles Alfred, 86, lifelong resident of Story county died Tuesday night at 6:30 o'clock at the farm home in Milford township he had occupied for more than 80 years.

He had been ill for two weeks.

Funeral services will be held at the Adams Chapel in Ames, Friday at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. LaVerne Erbin officiating. Burial will be in the McCallsburg cemetery.

Mr. Alfred was born Jan. 20, 1869 a son of Nancy and George Alfred. He had been an active farmer for years, a member of the Milford school boards, and in every way was a promoter for the best interests of the community. He was married in 1911 to Bessie Adams, who survives him. Also are surviving four sons, Joe, Erwin and Jack of Ames and Robert of Easley, South Carolina. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and a host of friends.
