From Nevada Representative January 24, 1913

ISABEL LAWMAN

Miss Isabel Lawman, better known among his friends as "Belle" was born March 18, 1874, near Rockford, Illinois, and died January 19, 1913, at Clarinda, iowa, aged 38 years, 10 months and 1 day. She was the youngest daughter of John and Violet Lawman, and when she was one year old she came with her parents to Story county, where was ever afterward her home. She grew up on the family homestead in Richland township and in the 90s moved with her parents to Nevada, the family home being for several years in the northeast part of this city but for past dozen years of so in the southeast. She was an attractive and capable young woman much esteemed among many friends; but about 1904 her health failed and a mental breakdown resulted in her being sent for treatment to the hospital at Clarinda. After a time she returned from the hospital much improved; but following her return there was the last sickness and death of her father putting upon her exceptional strain, and in 1906 she was again sent to the hospital, where she thereafter remained. About six months ago she became a sufferer from tuberculosis, and for some time her condition had been recognized as hopeless. It was not appreciated however, that the end was so near, and her mother, Mrs. Lawman, and her sisters, Mrs. Brooks and Mrs. Kelly, who were with her on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, returned only about two days before her death.

Following her death on Monday, her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Handsaker went down to Clarinda, accompanied by Undertaker Morfoot and returned with the body. The funeral was conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Lutheran church--where the deceased had long been a member--by Rev. Shirck. The deceased is survived by her mother, her brother Thomas of Rodman, and by her sisters, Mrs. Jos. E. Brooks of this city, Mrs. Nathan T. Handsaker of Colo, and Mrs. Frank Boynton of Bangor, Mich. all of whom where present at the funeral except the last named. One other sister, Mrs. Violet O'Donnell, of this city died a number of years ago.
