Obituary for Hal Briley
Hal Eugene Briley was born January 6, 1932 to Harry Eugene and Zella (Peden) Briley in Iowa City, Iowa. Hal graduated from Gilbert High School and joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country from 1951 to 1952. Hal married Sondra Piper in Ames on January 9, 1954.Hal was a jack-of-all-trades: a meat cutter, an electrician, an Ames police officer, a bar owner (Sportsman), a farmer. Hal worked as an electrical inspector for 25 years for the City of Ames, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Ames Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post #37. Hal enjoyed going to his kids and grandkids school events, fishing, farming, and spending time on the ‘forty’. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends.
Hal passed away January 31, 2013 at 81 years of age.
Hal is survived by his wife, Sandy, of Gilbert; two sons, James Briley of Woodward and Robert (Veronica) Briley of Gilbert; one daughter, Jackie (Max) Dunlap of Zearing; four granddaughters, Melissa Dunlap, Katelynn Dunlap, Kyla (Brian) Shannon and Amber Briley; one grandson, Blake Briley; and one brother, Gary (Judy) Briley of New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents.
