Mrs. Josie Belle Jacobson, nee Larson, was born on a farm south of Story City, November 4, 1878, to Kristie, nee Johnson, and Mike Larson. She always lived in Story County.
She was brought to the Lord in Holy Baptism in St. Petri Lutheran Church. Here she also received her early Christian training and her confirmation instruction.
On February 19, 1897, she was united in holy bonds of matrimony to Albert Jacobson, son of Bryngel Anna, nee Olson, and Andrew Johnson. They were blesser with nine children. Twin sons died in infancy.
Mrs. Jacobson was a life long member of St. Petri Church, and was active in those early years when the Ladies Aid held all day meetings in the home. Much quilting and other hand work was done.
Most of their married life Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson lived by farming near Gilbert. For five years they lived in Gilbert, where Mr. Jacobson was employed. In 1929 they moved to Story City, to a change of employment, where they lived with and cared for Mrs. Jacobson's father, Mike Larson, until he passed away. Mr. Jacobson passed away early in the morning on Mrs. Jacobson's 55th birthday, November 4, 1934. She then had her four younger children in the home for a short time, after which son Burnice and Mother had a home in Story City, except for approximately three years, when Mrs. Jacobson lived with her daughter, Mrs. Tressler in Ames, until her son Burnice returned from service. Since April of 1955 she made her home with her daughter Mrs. Almina Frandsen, near Roland, where she passed on at the age of 78 years, ten months and 26 days, to be with the Lord, early morning, September 30, 1958.
She leaves to mourn her departure, four daughters, Mamie (Mrs. Victor Lura) of Roland; Almina (Mrs. Frandsen) of Roland; Jenora (Mrs. Byron Tressler) of Clear Brook, Minn.; and Irene (Mrs. Harry Mabbitt) of Falls Church, Va. Three sons, Arnold of Fort Dodge, Burnice of Story City, and Truman of Des Moines. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, two brothers, John Larson of Elmore, Minn., and Curnie Larson of Story City, and three sisters, Mrs. Julia Boyd of Stanhope, Mrs. Angie Hoversten of Roland, and Mrs. Jennie Olson of Calamus, Iowa, all of whom attended her last rites. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Larson, brother Torenius, and sister Annie (Mrs. Edwin Dyvig) preceded her in death.
