DIED: November 28, 2012
LOCATION: Story City, IowaDorothy Arlene Holm, 85, of Story City, IA passed away Wednesday, November 28th at Bethany Life in Story City where she had resided for the last several months.
Dorothy Arlene Holm was born on 12/08/1926 in Boone, IA to Herman and Ella (Schlagel) Hubner. She grew up and attended school in Boone, IA.
On September 29, 1945 she married Harold A. Holm at her parent's home in Boone. They moved to Story City where they remained their entire lives. They always loved the community. Harold and Dorothy had been married for 63 years before he passed away in February 22, 2009.
Dorothy was employed several places over the years. Her favorite position was being a receptionist and bookkeeper for Dr. Robert Heise for nearly 20 years. At the same time she also kept books for her husband's business, Holm Auto Service. She had also worked for the Story City Cleaners, Helland's Jewelry, Bethany Manor and finally for Harlan's Food Mart. Dorothy loved people young and old and was sad when she had to stop working because of health issues.
Dorothy was a faithful member of and very active in Bethel Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a great daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also blessed with many good and loyal friends. Her daughters saw her as a dear lady whose cup was always "half full". She had the ability to focus on the good and positive side of every situation life presented to her.
Dorothy is survived by four daughters, Linda (Steve) Disbrowe of Story City, Roxie (Dennis) Steding of Iowa Falls, Becky (Kevin) Watson of Story City, Patty (Mark) Ludwig of Story City; six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one nephew and five nieces. We must also mention her beloved cat Burt, who was her wonderful and faithful companion the last few years of her life.
