Dorothy Darlene Pierce, 87 of Nevada went to her eternal home on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada. Burial of the cremains will follow in the Nevada Municipal Columbarium.
Dorothy was born on December 20, 1924 in Huron, SD to John Howard and Althea J. (Keith) Pierce. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1944. Dorothy worked for the State of Iowa as a Case Worker for the Department of Human Services until she retired in 1987. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing cribbage, crossword puzzles, volunteering at the Nevada Elementary School and watching Iowa Public Television.Dorothy is survived by her children Steven Craig (Zeneida) Corbin of Williams, CA, Claudia (Larry) McKim and Paula (Paul) Strum, all of Nevada; twelve grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; sister Anita (Loren) Kuiper of Pella; four brothers, Jack Pierce of Galena, IL, Don Pierce of DeSoto, John Pierce of Madrid, and Steve Pierce of West Des Moines; her cat, Penny; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, and great grandson Bryan Paul Strum, and infant brother Keith.
A memory fund has been established in loving memory of Dorothy.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Dorothy and her family.
