Ruth S. Jarvis, 94, of Ames and Story City, passed away on October 25, 2012, at Bethany Manor in Story City. . Visitation will be 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Sunday October 28 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 29 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way in Ames. Graveside burial service will be 2:00 p.m. at Redding Cemetery in Redding, Iowa.

Ruth Selena Balcom Jarvis was born in Clearfield, Iowa, to Orval and Margaret Balcom, on April 1, 1918. She married James Eldon Jarvis in 1934. They had five children, James, Ronald, Sandra, Sharon, and Linda. An Ames and Story City resident since 1960, she retired from Bourns, Inc., in 1983. She was an avid bridge player, seamstress, gardener, poet, and active member of the Ames Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her son Ronald and wife Mary of Connecticut, daughters Sharon Thomas of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Linda Knowlton of Arizona. Also, daughter-in-law Roma Jarvis of Ames and son-in-law Michael Lilly of California; Nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Jarvis, in 1994; son, James, in 2010; daughter, Sandra Lilly, in 2010; her sister, Ruby Dixon; and two brothers, Lloyde and Leo Balcom.
