Virginia L. Solberg

BORN: November 10, 1927
DIED: October 29, 2012
LOCATION: Jewell, Iowa

Virginia L. Solberg was born November 10, 1927 to John R. and Stella Lillian (Franklin) Reese in Jewell, Iowa. She graduated from Jewell High School and married Glenn Austin Solberg on March 16, 1947. She worked in Planning and Development in Map Design for the Iowa DOT. She lived most of her life in Jewell.

Virginia was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Story City. Her hobbies included knitting (especially dish cloths), baking kringla and cinnamon rolls, and bowling. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Affordables store in Story City, and at Bethany Manor.

Virginia passed away on Monday, October 29, 2012, in Gilbert at the age of 84 years.

Survivors include her children, Sandi (Roger) Lawrence of Ames, Butch (Nancy) Solberg of Jewell, and Mike (Angie) Solberg of Gilbert; two sisters, Delores Landreth of Stratford and Pat Orris of Waukee; two sister-in-laws, Doris Reese of Waukee and Irene Solberg of Williams; five grandchildren, Andrea (Craig) Jensen, Jenna (Chad) Anderson, Jessica Solberg, Miranda Solberg, and Austin Solberg; three great-grandchildren, Jordan, Savannah and Cole.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn, on March 31, 1977; two brothers, Jack Reese and Robert Reese; and one sister, Sena L. Hagen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Homeward Hospice or the American Legion in Story City.
