From McLarens Resthaven Chapel & Mortuary obituary, West Des Moines, Iowa:

Doris Elinora Switzer Stukenberg, 91, of Ballard Creek in Huxley and formerly of Ames, died on Friday, October 18, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be held at Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames on Saturday, October 20 at 10:30 am. Private family burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines prior to the memorial service.

Doris was born on April 9, 1921 on the family farm in Fairfield. She was the daughter of Clarence and Annie Duncan Switzer. Doris attended school and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1937 and furthered her education at Parsons College, State Teachers College of Iowa, Drake University and Northeast Missouri State University. Doris married August "Augie" C. Stukenberg III on August 15, 1943 in Fairfield. She held both Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Drake University. Doris taught for 36 years in Batavia, Aplington and Des Moines schools, served as a fraternity housemother in Martin, TN and Ames for 16 years, and as a lodge hostess for YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, CO for nine summers.

Doris was a member of Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames, DAR, Iowa State Women's Club and she volunteered at Reiman Gardens, the Ames Public Schools, Heritage Senior Center, McFarland Park and Mary Greeley Hospital. She was the recipient of a Points of Life Volunteerism Award from President Barack Obama.

Doris is survived by her children, Keith (Yvonne) Stukenberg of Luxemburg, WI, Beth (Richard) House of Albuquerque, NM, Dr. June Stukenberg (Robin) Hand of Marietta, GA and Rose Stukenberg Bennett of Fernandina Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Augie, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
