Richard Paul Brooks Sr
January 21, 1936 - August 20, 2012

Richard Paul Brooks, Sr., 76 of Ames, formerly of Nevada, died on Monday, August 20, 2012 at his residence. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 23 in the Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Nevada. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada.

Richard was born on January 21, 1936 in Ames to Earl and Agnes Alice (Lane) Brooks. He was a 1956 graduate of Ames High School. Richard served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division. On November 9, 1957, Dick married Opaline Bradley in Drakesboro, KY. He was a press operator for Graphics Forms in Nevada and Record Print in Story City. Richard was an avid sports fan, especially for ISU and the Chicago Bears.

Richard is survived by two sons, Richard Paul (Monica) Brooks, Jr. of San Antonio, TX and James Earl Brooks of Nevada; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Ashley Brooks, Dominique and Adria Garza; numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Opaline on January 7, 2002, an infant son Timothy, brother Robert Brooks, and sister Patricia Erickson.

A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Richard for the Alzheimer's Association.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Richard and his family.
