Ernest Lyman Clouser

BORN: June 15, 1912
DIED: August 26, 2012
LOCATION: Gilbert, Iowa

Ernest Lyman Clouser was born on a farm near Gilbert, Iowa on June 15, 1912. He married Maxine Elizabeth Brown on February 6, 1938 in Centerville, Iowa. The youngest of nine children, he spent much of his life farming the family farm outside of Gilbert. In addition to farming, he worked at Iowa State University before moving on to the National Animal Disease Laboratories and Vet Biologics, from where he retired on December 31, 1982. Ernest was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and liked to fish, travel, and play cards. He lived his entire adult life within three miles of Gilbert until moving to Bethany Manor at the age of 99 years, 9 months and 9 days old. There he celebrated his 100th birthday.

An avid supporter of the Gilbert schools, he would often be found in attendance at athletic and fine art events. He was active in the community and in 2011 Gilbert honored him with the "Citizen of the Year" award.

Ernest passed away August 26, 2012 at Bethany Manor in Story City at 100 years of age.

He is survived by three daughters, Judy (Jim) Vanderpool, Sara (Norris) Broussard, and Susan (Joe) Bulman; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Myrle Moore; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernest was preceded in death by his wife Maxine; his daughter Barbara; his grandson Thomas Allen Bauge; and seven brothers and sisters.
