Virginia Cole, age 84, of Story City, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 3400 Ziegler Ave., Radcliffe. Virginia was buried at Roland Cemetery in Roland.

Virginia Ruth (Taylor) Cole was born January 5, 1927, in Duncombe, Iowa, the daughter of Vernon and Dena (Fjetland) Taylor.

She received her education by attending schools in Marengo, Ellsworth and graduated from Jewell High School.

On June 7, 1947, Virginia was united in marriage to Argyle Harris Cole at Earlham, Iowa. They lived on a farm west of Radcliffe. In 1963, they moved to Roland where she managed the Casey's General Store when it opened and then she owned and operated the "Rocket Inn". She and Argyle enjoyed many winters in Texas and Arizona.

After Argyle died in 1987, she returned to Arizona to live until her health caused her to move back to Iowa in 2008, first residing at Cedar Place and then Bethany Manor in Story City. Virginia passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Bethany Manor.

Virginia was an avid Cubs fan. She liked to fish with her friends, play bingo, travel, and spend time with her family. She was a long time member of the Roland Legion Auxilary.

Those thankful for having shared her life include one daughter, Diane (Gary) Handeland of Story City; two sons, Larry (Roni) Cole of Scottsdale, Arizona and David Cole of Mesa, Arizona; three grandchildren Cara (Rand) Swenson, Wade (Lasey) Handeland and Kay Handeland; six great-grandchildren Kendra, Cole, Carly and Krista Swenson, Carson and Ava Handeland; two sisters Barbara (Merlin) McFarland, Alice Sather, and sister-in-law Carol Taylor; along with many other relatives and friends.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Argyle and two brothers Fritz and Dick Taylor.

Memorials may be directed to the Roland Cemetery, Veterans Memorial Fund or Salem Lutheran Church, 3400 Ziegler Ave., Radcliffe, IA 50230.
