From Fredregill Family Funeral Home obituary, Zearing, Story County, Iowa:

Robert “Bob” Lyle Good, 80, passed away with his family at his bedside on January 4, 2012 after a battle with cancer. Visitation for Bob will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at the Bethel United Methodist Church in Zearing. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Church. Interment will be in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.

Robert was born May 18, 1931 in Zearing to Hugh and Mildred Good. He was the second of three children. He grew up in Zearing until he joined the army in 1948. He completed his high school classes while in the army and returned to Zearing to graduate and marry his high school sweetheart, Elaine Mae Clark on June 4, 1950. Robert and Elaine moved to Fort Eustis, VA while he served in the Army transportation corps.

After his military service Robert, Elaine and their first son, Robert H. Good, returned to Zearing where he first leased a gas station that eventually lead to starting R. L. Good Oil Co. and Sons where he worked with his wife Elaine and all 3 of his sons. He turned the business over to his oldest son, Robert H. Good, and eventually retired from the business. He enjoyed retirement by working for Gookin Ford in Story City for many years.

Robert was an active lifelong resident of Zearing. Along with being a business owner, he served on the Zearing City Council, NESCO School Board, and the United Methodist Church board. He was one of the founders of the Zearing Community Club. He was an active member of the American Legion Unit 116 for 60 years serving many years as Commander. He was one of the original 13 men who founded and built the Colonial Manor Nursing Home which is now the Zearing Healthcare facility where he spent his last days.

Robert had a fun and adventurous spirit who enjoyed life and loved his community. He enjoyed his dog Spot, his garden, his swimming pool, tractor pulls, NASCAR races, and visiting with his friends. He loved his family and keeping track of all grandkid’s activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife Elaine, son Robert H Good and infant granddaughter Miranda Good. He is survived by his son Rick of Zearing, daughter Susanne Anderson of Zearing, son Charles (Michelli) of Nevada, daughter Kathy (Dana) Langenberg of Urbandale, 16 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family for distribution to local charities at a later date.
