Mark Edward Johnson
September 8, 1930 - December 6, 2010Mark Edward Johnson, 80 of Nevada, formerly of Atlantic died on Monday, December 6, 2010 at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday December 10 at the First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with Pastor Kevin Leveck officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Mark was born on September 8, 1930 in Lake City IA to Joe L. and Esther (Black) Johnson. He lived on a farm west of Rinard until the age 10 when he and his mother moved to Nevada. Mark was a 1948 graduate of Nevada High School. He worked at Varsity Cleaners for his friend Don Carey and for Luther Jorn at Fareway. Mark served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during the Korean conflict. On May 6, 1956, Mark married Pauline Hill at the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. They were transferred to Independence, IA when he was employed by Fareway. In 1965, Mark started a long sales career with Hoxie Fruit Co. of Des Moines. While residing in Atlantic IA, Mark also was a co-owner of the Valley Restaurant. He started his own company, Gloves Plus Wholesale and operated it for the next 17 years. Pauline and Mark returned to Nevada 3 years ago to retire and spend time with family after living in Atlantic for 40 years. His hobbies include spending time with family and friends along with bringing smiles to everyone around him.
Mark is survived by his wife Pauline of Nevada; 2 sons, Darwin (Carol) Johnson of Breckenridge, CO and their children Chris (Emily) Johnson of Eugene, OR and Elizabeth M. (fiance Jachin Tan) Johnson of Singapore and son, Terry (Jenny) Johnson of Nevada and their sons, Noah K. and Keegan M. Johnson.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9 with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada.A memorial fund has been established in Mark's name.
