Genevieve Helen Cook
August 11, 1916 - January 26, 2011Genevieve Helen (Donaldson) Cook, 94 of Nevada died on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Story County Medical Center in Nevada. Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 31 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1110 11th Street in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
Genevieve was born on August 11, 1916 in Nevada to Joseph and Stella (Boys) Donaldson. She attended grade school in a one room school house and graduated in 1934 from Milford High School. On November 24, 1935, Genevieve married Eugene Woodrow Cook at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She and her husband Gene owned and operated the Nevada Motel and Gas Station on Lincoln Highway. In 1994, they were the Grand Marshall's in the Lincoln Highway Days Parade. Genevieve was a devote Catholic and was very active in the church. She also enjoyed playing bridge, baking, spending time with friends and family.
Genevieve is survived by 3 sons, Nick (Cathy) Cook of Ames, Kenneth (Sandi) Cook of Marion, and Ned (Sandy) Cook of Woodbury, MN; a daughter Mary Ann (Dennis) Harrison of Nevada; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene on September 15, 1997, a brother Francis Donaldson, and 3 sisters, Velma Kaufman, Theresa Lynch, and Marie Heintz.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 30 after 2:00 p.m. at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth Street in Nevada. A vigil service will be held at 4:00 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established in Genevieve's name at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Service:
Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 31 at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1110 11th Street in Nevada with Father Rick Dagit officiating.
Cemetery:
Burial will follow the Funeral Mass at the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
