Erma Pauline Beran
November 1, 1924 - November 23, 2011

Erma Pauline Beran, 87, formerly of Garden City, died on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Zearing Health Care Center in Zearing after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28 at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Erma was born on November 1, 1924 in Radcliffe to Peter J. and Emma J. (Wierson) Vickre. She was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church and was privileged to live her entire life in the Garden City area. Erma graduated from Radcliffe High School and continued her education in earning a teachers certificate. On June 25, 1944, Erma was united in marriage to Virgil E. Beran at the Zion Lutheran Church. She was the proud mother of Pam and Paula. She was a loving homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, and spending wonderful times with her grandchildren. Erma was a longtime volunteer at Bethany Manor in Story City.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Pam and her husband Bob Brinton of Clarion and Paula Bruce of Nevada; five grandchildren, Chad Klug, Andrea Brinton, Amanda (Chris) Roske, Amber (Ryan) Roske and Morgan (E.J.) Dornfeldt; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Helen Tjelmeland of Roland; a brother-in-law, Frank V. Beran M.D. and his wife Stephanie of Fort Atkinson, WI; and a sister-in-law, Lois Vickre of Story City. Erma is also survived by her dear friends Doris Womeldorf and Charlotte Friest along with many other relatives and friends.

Erma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil on August 12, 1985, a brother Arnold Vickre, sister Esther Clark, brothers-in-law, Dick Clark and Harold Tjelmeland.

Thanks be to God for the life and memory of Erma Beran!

The family expresses their deepest thanks for all the kindness shown. Your expressions of love and caring will be long remembered.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the Zion Lutheran Church in loving memory of Erma.
