Louis Coon
June 1, 1926 - February 20, 2011

Louis Coon age 84 of Ames died Sunday Feb. 20, 2011. A gathering of friends and family visitation will be 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23 with the family present 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. and a 7:00 p.m. Masonic Service at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way with a Celebration of Life funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Thurs. Feb. 24, Calvary United Methodist Church at 24th and Hoover in Ames with burial at Murray Cemetery, Murray, Iowa.

Louis was born June 1, 1926 in Murray Iowa the son of George A. and Clara E. (Little) Coon. He attended school in Murray and joined the US Marines in March of 1944. He received an Honorable discharge from the Marine Corp where he was awarded Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and The Presidential Unit Citation. He married Patricia Oswald on September 21, 1947 in Creston, Iowa. He worked for McCrory, McClellan and Green in retail management and later worked at Mankato State University as a purchasing agent retiring in 1989. He and Pat then moved to Hackensack, Minnesota, where they lived until 2000 when they moved to Ames. Louis was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #37, Arcadia Lodge #249A.F. & A.M., Laura Chapter #115 Order of the Eastern Star, and VFW #817 of Boone.

He is survived by his wife Pat Coon of Ames, Iowa, three sons, Michael (Barbara)Coon of Ames, Iowa, Dennis (Lisa)Coon of Schaumburg, Illinois, Larry (Jan) Coon of Webster, Minnesota, six grandchildren, Jason Coon, Cindy (Chad) Rittenour, Aaron (Erin) Coon, Megan Coon, Brian (Laran) Coon and Jackie Coon, five great grandchildren, and one sister, Alice Staley of Phoenix, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
