Ava E. Miller

Dike, Iowa

Ava E. Miller, 92, of Ankeny formerly of Maxwell, died quietly on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Mill-Pond Care Center in Ankeny.

Ava was born March 13, 1918, near Maxwell, IA, the daughter of Charles and Olive Blanche (Harrison) Allen. She married Dale "Bing" Miller on October 21, 1937. He preceded her in death on October 26, 1990. Ava was a farm wife as well as worked and owned Ava's Beauty Shop for 52 years. She loved to dance, play cards, knit and crochet.

Ava is survived by her son, Allen (Delores) Miller of Muscatine; her daughter, Shirley (Rich) Norton of Dike; four grandchildren, Kevin (Beth) Miller, Bryan Miller and fiance Melissa, Brent (Cathy) Norton, Kelly (Norton) Meyer and fiance Jason; nine great-grandchildren, Zachary and Abigail Miller, Avery, Kristyn and Mason Miller, Alison and Samantha Norton, Ryan Winters and Shelby Norton.

Ava was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two brothers, Forest Allen and Francis Allen; and her two sisters, Queen Elliot and Leota Cairns.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2011, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell with Reverend Rick Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Maxwell Cemetery in Maxwell. Visitation with family present will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday, February 20, 2011, also at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ava Miller Memorial Fund which includes Hospice of Central Iowa.
