Maxwell, Iowa

Donald Lee "Duck" Gardner Sr., 65, of Maxwell, died Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Don was born February 28, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Charles Henry and Maude Edith (See) Gardner. He was united in marriage to Barbara Ann McKee on July 2, 1977 in Tuscan, Arizona. Don was a radiator repair man and mechanic. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and many home carpentry projects with friends.

Don is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Gardner of Maxwell, IA; three sons: Donald Lee (Alice) Gardner, Jr. Of Adel, IA; David Dale (Nikki) Sampson of Adel, IA; Toby Gramlich of Des Moines, IA; a daughter: Joni (Steve) Johnston of Baxter, IA; eleven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers: Wayne “Tony” Gardner of Hopewell, PA, James "Jim" Gardner of Council Bluffs, IA; one sister: Martha O’Neil of Council Bluffs, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers and three sisters.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell. Inurnment will follow at the Peoria Cemetery south of Maxwell.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

Memorials may be made to the Israel Family Hospice House, 400 South Dakota Avenue, Ames, Iowa 50014.

The family would like to thank everyone for all of the support, love, and encouragement during the time of his illness.
