Dorothy Hapes

October 25, 1918 - October 20, 2011
Nevada, Iowa

Dorothy Hapes, 92, of Nevada passed away Thursday, October 20, 2011, at Story County Senior Care in Nevada.

Dorothy was born October 25, 1918, at Nevada to David and Lucy Belle (McKee) Earwicker. She was united in marriage to Charles Henry Hapes on September 25, 1937, at Tama; to this union four children were born. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lydia Circle. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, crocheting, playing BINGO and needle point embroidery. Dorothy loved her family and grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Charles (Emma) Hapes of Las Vegas, NV, Karen Anderson of Nevada, Betty Shafer of South Haven, Michigan and Norma (Dan) Schoppe of Marshalltown; one brother, Harley Earwicker of Escondido, California; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; nine brothers and sisters; two sons-in-law, Edward Anderson and Robert Shafer; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Kevin Leveck officiating; burial to follow at Nevada Municipal Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Memorials may be made to the Dorothy Hapes memorial fund.
