Joseph S. Lijewski

October 30, 1934 - October 21, 2011
Nevada, Iowa

Joseph "Joe" Lijewski, 76, of Nevada, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011, at his home in Nevada after a battle with cancer.

Joe was born October 30, 1934, in La Salle, Illinois to Joseph and Hatti (Mankowski) Lijewski. He graduated from St. Bede's Academy in 1952, and immediately joined the United States Air Force serving until his honorable discharge in 1956. On January 1, 1980, Joe married Bonnie Mason-Borton in Nevada. He worked 30 years for Sunstrand/Sauer-Danfoss in Ames and La Salle, IL as a Quality Control Manager.

Joe enjoyed golfing, watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears and playing cards.

Joe is survived by his wife Bonnie; his children, Joey (Debbie) Lijewski of Hot Springs, AR, Eric Lijewski of Omaha, NE, Cathie (Russell) Burton of Hot Springs, AR, Victoria (Doug) Bogenrief of Wichita Falls, TX and Aaron (Jean) Borton of Nevada; one brother, Ronald Lijewski of Peru, IL; one sister-in-law, Gerry Lijewski of La Salle, IL; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William.

Per Joe's wishes, he has been cremated and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada or Homeward Hospice in Ames.

Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is assisting the family.
