From Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Florine Briggie

February 6, 1917 - January 15, 2012
Nevada, Iowa

Florine Friedericka Briggie, 94, passed away on January 15, 2012, at the Madrid Home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, at Memorial Lutheran Church, 2228 Lincoln Way, Ames. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. at Bacon Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Parkway, Nevada.

Florine was born on February 6, 1917, in Eureka, South Dakota. She was the oldest of three daughters born to John and Hertha (Werre) Mutschler. She grew up in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. She married Almond (Al) Briggie in Oakland, California, on March 25, 1943. After their marriage, they made their home in Al's home town of Paullina, Iowa, where, with the exception of a 7-year period during which they lived in Willmar, Minnesota, she resided until 1994 when she moved to Nevada. She moved to the Madrid Home in July 2010.

Although Florine worked outside the home during much of her life, she was first and foremost a homemaker. She had a large vegetable garden, from which she canned enough vegetables to last her family during the winter. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and sewing, always taking care of her family's needs. Other hobbies and activities included fishing, camping, going to flea markets and garage sales, and playing cards. She was a lifetime member of the Lutheran church and participated in various church activities. She had many friends and enjoyed spending time with them and her family. She was "Grammy" to her great-grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart.

Florine is survived by two daughters: Judy and Jim Denato of Ames, and Edie and Rod Samuelson of Johnston; three granddaughters: Lynette and Bob Peterson of Jefferson, Louise and Jeff Onken of Boone, and Alyssa Samuelson of Scottsdale, Arizona; three great-grandchildren: Hannah, Victoria, and Chance Peterson; a sister, Vera and Ken Parker of Stockton, California, several nieces and nephews, and her special friend and caregiver, Karen Sanburn of Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1992, and her sister, Marjorie Heer.

The family wishes to thank the many caregivers and friends at the Madrid Home and Wesley Life Hospice, who lovingly and compassionately cared for Florine during the last months of her life.

Memorials may be made to The Madrid Home or Memorial Lutheran Church, Ames.
