Betty Mae (Barnhart) Hernandez, 57, of Nevada, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012, at her home in Nevada.

Betty was born May 27, 1954, to Eugene and Betty (Williams) Barnhart in Aurora, Missouri and lived several years in Texas before returning to Iowa. She attended West Marshall High School and graduated from New Providence High School. Betty enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and country music. She was a very caring and loving person and will be missed by those that knew her.

Betty is survived by her children, Candida Cook of Galveston, TX, Robert Hefley of Houston, TX, Rochelle (Jesse) Lott of Dayton, TX and Stephen Hernandez of Dayton, TX; her mother, Betty Smith of Nevada; her sister, Mary (Wendell) Schmidt of State Center; and one grandson, Russell Cook of Dayton, TX. She was preceded in death by her father; and sister, Susie Haskins.

A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada with Pastor Anjeanette Perkins, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Betty.
