Nevada, Iowa

Dale L. Link, 86, of Nevada, died Saturday, May 12, 2012, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Dale was born June 29, 1925, at Climbing Hill, Iowa near Woodbury, the son of Charles and Clara (Smith) Link. Dale served in the Marines Corps during World War II. He was united in marriage to Betty Mae Young on June 24, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Betty preceded Dale in death on December 12, 2011. Dale and Betty farmed near Ames for four years,then moved to Shipley where they farmed until 1988. He enjoyed taking flowers to Betty, discussing farming, draft horses and little ones: grandchildren and great-grandchildren, calves, chicks and foals. Dale was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church and very active in the American Legion.

Dale is survived by three children: Rollie (Denise) Link of Ames, Deb (Steve) Jennings of Nevada, Carl (Stacie) Link of Cambridge; eight grandchildren: Dere (Cara) Jennings of Davenport, David (Sara) Jennings of Sycamore, IL, Betsy (Jeff) Happe of Nevada, Amos (Cassie) Link of Nevada, Anna Link of Ames, Alisa Link of Des Moines, Jonathan Link of New York City, NY, Emma Link of Canajoharie, NY; and nine great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; an infant son: Kenneth Ray Link; three brothers: Marion Link, Darrell Link, Rollie Link; and three sisters: Marie Dodd, Ruth Evans and Dorothy Boyer.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 16th, at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Visitation will be 7:00 – 8:30 PM Tuesday, May 15th, at the Bacon Funeral Home. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Legion Scholarship Fund.

The Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada is handling arrangements.
