Richard (Dick) R. Fincham

83, of Ames, Iowa, died from a massive stroke on Thursday morning March 29, 2012, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, Ames.

Born July 12, 1928, in Ames, IA, to Raymond and Ruby (York) Fincham, he lived most of his life in the Gilbert and Story City, IA, area.

He graduated from Gilbert High School in 1946 and Iowa State University in 1950, with a B.S. in Journalism. Following college, he worked for a magazine in Illinois, then served in the U.S. Army for two years before returning to Iowa to take over the Fincham century farm south of Gilbert.

He and Anita Smith were married on December 18, 1955, and delighted in the birth of each of their four daughters. He expanded his involvement and interest in the farming industry through 17 years with Iowa State Extension's Rural Concern Hotline.

Dick is survived by his wife, Anita, three daughters, Janice (Tom) Wilton of Polk City, IA, Leanne (Jay) Johnston of Charlotte, NC, and Linda Fincham of Columbia, MO, and eight grandchildren, Peter and Brian Wilton, Sierra and Jasmine Lambert, Kayla and Megan Johnston, and Eric and Lexi Fincham.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Eunice Duea, and daughter Debra Ellen Fincham (Mark Lambert).

Visitation will be Sunday, April 1, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., with services Monday, April 2, at 10 a.m., both at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 607 28th Street, Ames, IA.
