Marion Kyle Thompson

BORN: April 26, 1916

DIED: September 10, 2010

LOCATION: Story City, Iowa

Marion Kyle Thompson, 94, died peacefully at Bethany Manor in Story City on September 10, 2010.

Marion Kyle Miller was born to David Ireland Blacklaw Miller and Margaret Orr Kyle Miller on April 26, 1916 in Ludlow, Massachusetts. She grew up in Ludlow and attended college in Springfield, Massachusetts at American International College, graduating in the class of 1933. She taught high school in Ludlow prior to her marriage to John George Hatch Thompson in 1939. Marion and George lived in College Station Texas from 1939 to 1984 (George) and 2001 (Marion).

Marion was an active leader in the Covenant Presbyterian Church in College Station, served as a Girl Scout leader, worked as a Latin teacher at A&M Consolidated High School and as a volunteer in the establishment of the Brushy Day Care Center. Throughout her life, Marion loved music and was an accomplished pianist and singer. She loved to travel, particularly trips to visit family on the East Coast. Marion always demonstrated a sincere commitment to helping those in need and led a life characterized by service and concern for others.

In 2001, Marion moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico to live with her daughter and family and in 2006 she moved to Bethany Manor in Story City.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband George, her sister, Claire Malone, and her parents. She is survived by her son Bruce (Ann) Thompson of Ames and her daughter Nancy (John) Bliss of Los Alamos. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Amy (Randy) Standridge of San Antonio, Texas; Kirk (Leigh) Thompson of Midland, Michigan; Robert Bliss of College Station, Texas; Katie (Hayden) Belobrajdic of League City, Texas; Megan (Grant) Fox of Houston, Texas and Sarah Bliss of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition, she is survived by five great grandchildren children, with a sixth expected in October.

A memorial service for Marion will be held in the chapel at Bethany Manor in Story City on Wednesday, September 15 at 1:30 pm. Marion will also be remembered in a memorial service in College Station, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bethany Manor through Bethany Life Foundation, 212 Lafayette Ave., Story City, IA 50248.
