Betty Hemstreet

BORN: April 10, 1922

DIED: January 30, 2011

LOCATION: Boone, Iowa

Betty Ann Hemstreet, 88, of Ames, passed away January 30, 2011 at Westhaven Community in Boone. There will be a Gathering of Friends from 10 a.m.- noon Wednesday, February 2 at Adams Funeral Home followed by burial in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Betty was born in Nevada, Iowa, April 10, 1922 to Michael and Josephine (Olson) Purkhiser. She graduated from Nevada High School.

Betty married Don R. Hemstreet February 28, 1948 in Nevada. She worked in several departments at the Iowa DOT retiring after 15 years. Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was a 63 year member of the Ames American Legion Auxilary.
Survivors include her children, Ann Bernthal of Champaign, Ill and Steven (Vicki) Hemstreet of Boone; two grandchildren, Aaron Hemstreet of Boone and Sarrah (Dustin) Frost of Stuart, IA; sister, Esther Baker of Davenport; and brother-in-law, Dan Reid of LeClair, IA.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Patricia Reid.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Haven Community in Boone.
