Irving Sonny Petersen

BORN: October 6, 1918
DIED: March 23, 2011
LOCATION: Gilbert, Iowa

Irving “Sonny” Petersen, 92, died Wednesday, March 23rd at his home surrounded by his family.

Sonny was born October 6, 1918 in Good Thunder, Minnesota to Oluf and Anna Petersen. He graduated from Gilbert high school and married Elizabeth “Betty” Carter on April 21, 1941 in Trenton Missouri. They have lived in Ames, Nevada and Gilbert.
He was a farmer and an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Gilbert Lutheran Church and a regular at the Gilbert Co-op “coffee club”.

He is survived by 5 daughters: Connie Safly of Ames, Karen Willson of Gilbert, Vicki (Rob)Albers of Omaha, NE, Cindy (Dean)Olinger and Kim (John) Reilly of Ames, 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, 4 great, great grandchildren, and special friend Betty Arrasmith of Story City

He was preceeded in death by his wife of 60 years, his parents, one brother, Delbert Petersen, 4 sisters, Viola Anderson, Edna Speck, Mary Matters and Annabelle Rickerl, and one granddaughter, Carmon Willson.

Memorials may be made to Mary Greeley Medical Center Foundation for Homeward Hospice.
