From Adams & Soderstrum Funeral Home obituary, Story County, Iowa:

Christina Oldfield

BORN: November 15, 1960

DIED: June 13, 2011

LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Christina Jodeen Clark Oldfield, 50, a dynamic and well-loved member of the Ames community, passed away peacefully on Monday among family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 20 at St. John’s Episcopal Church.

Christina spent much of her days volunteering at Food at First, Beyond Welfare, Bethesda Community Food Pantry, and wherever needed, helping people move, driving them to medical appointments, or washing dishes after community meals. She received a Governor’s Volunteer Award and named a Hometown Hero in 2008.

The youngest of nine children, she was born in Anaheim, CA to Daniel William and DoLoris Martin Clark. The family moved several times before settling in Story County, where her mother and grandmother, Florence Amelia Martin Giffin, were born. As a young woman Christina moved to Louisiana, joined the Air National Guard, and gave birth to her first child, Jacqueline Darlene Rosalie Clark. In the early 1980s she moved to San Diego to care for her ailing father. She had three more children, Travis Anthony Clark, Jessica Diane Clark, and Terah Ann Clark-Guire. In 2003 she returned with all four children to Ames to be near her mother and brother Rick. Her loving partner, Larry Guire, followed.

Christina’s kindness, quick wit and genuine smile had the ability to touch people deeply or light up a room, but she struggled with more than her share of demons. In recent years, her spirit was buoyed by her granddaughter, Nateline. She was also devoted to the care of her mother.

Survivors include her children, Jacque (23), Travis (19), Jessica (18), and Terah (14); granddaughter, Nateline (3); partner of twenty years, Larry; mother, DoLoris; brothers, Richard Douglas Clark (Ames) and Daniel Thomas Clark (San Diego); sisters, Patricia Lorraine Williamson (Colorado Springs) and Nancy Lynn Harrison (Conway, Texas); and countless friends and colleagues in Ames. She is predeceased by father; brothers, Loren Gilbert Clark, Steven Martin Clark, and William Raymond Clark; and sister, Gloria Michelle Talbot. Christina wanted to thank the staff at Mary Greeley Medical Center and Iowa Methodist Hospital for their kindness to her. It was her wish that in her honor, people give of their time to an organization or family or person whose circumstances are in some way impoverished—and receive gratefully the blessings of such work.
