Helen Elliott

BORN: March 3, 1923

DIED: October 30, 2011

LOCATION: Huxley, Iowa

Helen Lucille Elliott, 88 of Huxley, Iowa, passed away peacefully at the Madrid Nursing Home on Sunday, October 30, 2011. She had been there just a short time. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 with services to follow at 2 p.m. at Adams Funeral Home, Ames. Burial will follow at the Zearing Cemetery in Zearing, Iowa.

Helen was born on March 3, 1923 in Colo, Iowa to Hassie and Henry Spillman. Helen's mother passed away shortly after giving birth and she was raised by Lola Lutz, a family friend. Helen had a daughter, Betty Langland by a previous marriage. On April 22, 1950 Helen married Loren R. Elliott of McCallsburg, Iowa.

Helen worked for the Donnelly Corporation in Nevada for several years and in 1960, she and Loren moved to Ames, Iowa and began working for the National Animal Disease Lab and remained there until their retirement in 1978.

Loren and Helen spent many years dancing at various ballrooms around the area until Loren passed away in 2007. Helen was an active member of the Collegiate Presbyterian Church until she had to move to Ballard Creek Community Assisted Living in 2009. Her biggest joy in life was her family and a little dog named Bear.

She is survived by one daughter, Betty(Jerry) Kindhart, Huxley, Iowa; two granddaughters, Lisa Ann Terzo, Phoenix, AZ, and Paula Kay Goodrich, Bell Canyon, CA.; two great grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Fraijo(Adrian), Phoenix, AZ, and Gerrit Jon Klein, Phoenix, AZ; and three first cousins, Vivian Dennis, Conrad, IA., Merle Metgee, Conrad, IA, and Clarence Conkin, Marietta, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents Hassie and Henry Spillman, her husband of 57 years, Loren, and the family friend who raised her, Lola Lutz.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Helen. The family would like to thank all the staff and caregivers at Ballard Creek and the Madrid Home.
