Billy Dean Brown

BORN: May 25, 1930

DIED: January 14, 2012

LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Billy was born May 25, 1930 in Weatherby, Missouri to Cecil and Iva Mae (Stewart) Brown. He married Mary Templeton March 22, 1970 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Billy loved to tinker with things. He did plenty of tinkering in his 36 ½ years working for the DOT as a maintenance worker and mechanic. His final position was designing, building and maintaining the DOT's paint equipment. On the side he managed to build propane heating equipment, served in a local stock car pit crew and had patents issued for some of his paint equipment designs. He also loved being around people. He spent most of his working life heavily involved with the AFSCME union (he was a President of the Local Unit AFSCME 2997). After retiring he and Mary worked at local race tracks, spent time at Prairie Meadows, and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with friends and family.

His survivors include his wife, Mary, of Ames; five children, Richard (Carol) Brown, of Nevada, Mike (Cindy) Templeton, of Boone, Mark (Janet) Templeton, of Story City, Chris (Mike) Carnelia, of Overland Park, KS, and Mona Clark, of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sister, Velma Fleming of Alleman and brother, Ken (Colleen) Brown of Stanton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first spouse, three sisters, and one brother.
