Pauline W. Rod

BORN: January 3, 1918

DIED: June 4, 2012

LOCATION: Windsor Heights, Iowa

Pauline W. Rod, 94, formerly of Ames, died June 4, 2012 at Calvin Community in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday June 16th at Calvin Community, with private burial of her cremains at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Calvin Community, 4210 Hickman Road, Des Moines, IA 50310, or Bergen Lutheran Church, 101 West Maple St, Roland, IA 50236, where she was a long time member.

Pauline was born January 3, 1918 to Frederic and Agnes (Anderson) Wheeler in Gilbert, Iowa. She grew up in Ames, and after graduating from Ames High School in 1936, was employed for several years as a legal secretary for the Ames City Judge. She married Paul Rod September 14, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They were parents of three sons: James, Douglas and William. After her children were grown, Pauline obtained a position as secretary to the Director of the National Animal Disease Lab in Ames, a job she held until she retired in 1980. She moved to Windsor Heights in 2001 to be near her extended family.

Pauline is survived by her sister Eloise Wildman; her grandsons Kristopher Rod and Terry Totemeier; her daughters-in-law Dolores Hughes Rod and Mary Copp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul; and her sons James, Douglas and William Rod; her brother Robert Wheeler; and her sister Maxine Krajicek.
