Velma Letha Frohling

BORN: April 18, 1915

DIED: June 19, 2012

LOCATION: Belmond, Iowa

Velma Letha Frohling was born on April 18, 1915 in Wright County, Iowa to Stuart L. and Rose (Hilpipre) Smith. She grew up near Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1935. On August 30, 1937, she married Edward Frohling in Des Moines. The couple resided in Belmond all their married life.

To this union, three children were born: Arlyn, Verlyn and Jerry.She worked at the Belmond Community Hospital for 30 plus years and held many positions, retiring as a purchasing agent. In her retirement she painted china, including many dolls which she lovingly outfitted.She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing and tending her flower garden. She looked forward to her and Ed's annual trip to the west coast to visit relatives and continued to travel after Ed's passing. She was a longtime active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond.

Velma passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa at 97 years of age.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Leola Sheller, Maxine Riggs; and her brother, Caryl Smith.

Survivors include her sons, Arlyn (Diane) of Bradenton, FL., Verlyn (Barb) of Story City, IA and Jerry (Alice) of Stockton, CA.; eight grandchildren, Sherri Keigan, Jean Kailiawa, Bill Frohling, Ed Frohling, Dave Frohling, Kris Frohling, Letha Simard, Roger Frohling; and eleven great-grandchildren.
